Generalized analytical body force model for actuator disc computations of wind turbines

Abstract. A new generalized analytical model for representing body forces in numerical actuator disc models of wind turbines is proposed and compared to results from a blade element momentum (BEM) model. The an extension previously developed load model, which was based on the rotor being subject constant circulation, modified tip root effects, corresponding optimum design case. By adding parabolic circulation distribution, solid-body approach flow near wake, it possible take into account losses associated with off-design cases, pitch regulation at high speeds. advantage that does not depend any detailed knowledge concerning actual turbine analysed but only requires information about thrust coefficient tip-speed ratio. validated different operating under wide range conditions. comparisons show generally excellent agreement BEM even very small coefficients ratios.
